A Note From Our Founder

As a student at an international online high school, I have had many opportunities to recognise the important role that online communication plays in our everyday lives. From students to teachers, employers to employees, and individuals at every stage of life from every corner of the globe, we are all increasingly dependent on online communication for various aspects of our day-to-day life.

This perspective, coupled with an eye-opening course that I completed on the language of online scams, quickly led me to ask the following questions: How can information about online safety be made more accessible? How can we change the way that we approach online safety to include an understanding of the linguistic and psychological principles that influence how we communicate and receive information online? How can we all become more respectful to those with whom we interact on various online platforms?

It was with these questions in mind that the concept for Communication Mindfulness was born.

Our Project Aims

At Communication Mindfulness, we believe that it is the right of every individual to be educated about the risks associated with their online activity, to gain a comprehensive understanding of how these risks arise, and to develop a holistic approach to online safety.

To us, online safety means much more than the basic best practices of checking for secure hyperlinks, using a firewall, or installing anti-virus and software protection services.  Instead, Communication Mindfulness aims to help pioneer a new approach to online safety – one that relies on making a basic understanding of the linguistic and psychological principles behind online communication accessible to all digital citizens.

Through this holistic approach, we hope to create a community of mindful digital citizens who have mastered the art of thinking before clicking – whether on a hyperlink, email attachment, or the ‘send’ button for their own messages.

In line with this, we have outlined 6 core aims which we hope to realise through the Communication Mindfulness project.
